I know that taking photographs is a very personal experience. As a photographer, I believe that it is so important that the moment is captured in the most accurate and natural way possible. That’s why I created this page, so you can gain insight into me, the way that I work, and my style in general. Take a look below to find out who you may be working with, and what to expect from our experience together.
What I Love Most About Photography
I love the fact that photography gives me the chance to capture and then frame a moment in time. Sure, this may sound a bit cheesy or cliché, but it’s genuinely true. I also believe that life is a series of chapters. What’s the present, will soon become the past. Photography gives us a way to freeze those moments in time, so they create not only memories but visual references that last for a lifetime. There’s something poetic about capturing someone shedding a tear on their wedding day, a child’s first birthday party, or a bird snatching a fish mid-flight from the depths of the ocean. The little moments we take for granted are often the memories we go on to treasure the most. Photography freezes them in time, and that’s what I love about looking at life through a lens.
Summarising my Style
When people ask me to summarise my style, I would say that I am more of a documentary photographer. I love working in a reportage style and working to capture those moments that happen naturally. I’m not a fan of posed shots. I prefer to capture life in the moment, when someone has no idea they are being photographed for example. The scene is relaxed, and it is a snapshot of life as we know it, at that moment in time. For me, there’s something really special about that, and it’s why I’m so drawn to photography in general.
Why I’m Different to Other Photographers
What makes me different is that I’ve never taken the easy route. I’m always trying to get a better shot, a more complex angle, more natural lighting, or better equipment. Staying hungry is the one reason why I have gone from strength to strength with my work. My appetite for learning is yet to be satiated and my creative drive means that I’m always thinking out of the box. So many photographers over-engineer their photos through heavy editing software, but I believe that the real work starts with the original snap. Life’s too short to miss out on things that happen in the moment. Life’s complicated as it is as well. That’s why I adopt a simple approach, that helps to freeze moments in time, in the best possible way.
What’s Reportage Photography?
Reportage photography is about capturing the atmosphere of an event, preserving that moment in time. It should evoke emotion, and make you feel as though you were part of the event yourself. It’s more than clicking a button, it’s about capturing those fine details that tell the whole story and not just a small part of it.
